Inventions Behind

Our device has so many inventions inside that some people think it’s impossible to create something like this. But we did it! The mechanical and hardware part was tricky and took a lot of effort, engineering, experiments, and plenty of intermediate prototypes and no-sleep nights for our R&D guys.

Software is even more sophisticated. The device is unique; it has 8 separate modules with a CPU inside of each that are supposed to be synchronized. It’s like programming 8 computers at once.

Apps run on 24 screens simultaneously, and software must, at all times, be “aware” of the position of each of the three screens of the module on which it runs. It required building a new operating system from scratch and an entirely new software stack to control all the hardware components as one integrated system.

From a prototype to a boxed product on a store-shelf in 4 years

The first prototype was made of 3D-printed body pieces and standard Arduino components. And it was working! Look at the size of it. We ran multiple experiments to find the best dimensions of the cube that would feel good and comfortable to play with.

Screens

We were inspired by the design of the cutting-edge phone technologies when we were working on our screens. Today it’s thick, tempered glass with rounded 2.5D edges, and an oleophobic coating with fingerprint resistance.

Magnetic connectors

It was the most challenging task to invent a way to connect the 8 modules. We made more than 40 prototypes of connectors that hold 8 modules together to find the engineering solution that would be safe, reliable and would feel good when you play with the device. Today it’s our most remarkable invention inside of the cube.

The central base

We were inspired by a Rubik’s cube, but its central base can hold only empty, light plastic modules. We had to reinvent the central mechanism to make it work.

The Charger

We came up with a simple and elegant solution that is convenient and easy to use, and efficient at the same time. It works all the ways – no matter which side of the device you put it on.

PCB
PCB or Printed Circuit Board is the standard component of any electronic device. But in our case we have 32 of them.

Software

CubiOs Inc. is building an entirely new ecosystem of games, widgets, and apps for the WOWCube® Entertainment System by providing SDK and API for developers worldwide who are inspired by unique possibilities to create immersive-reality worlds on the next-gen cube.

We developed the Operation system, open API, and SDK to allow independent developers to create their own applications and sell it through the WOWCube® Application Store.
